The story wanders, too much "thinking" by the characters and too much explaining. When Roddy's parents explain to him what the diasteel suit his wife had used to escape the ravagers was (which he himself had used to escape the ravagers.) and what it does l gave up. The author had lost the plot.

Author just can't stop missing the connections between events. Timetables don't match, actions don't coincide with technological marvels. It is becoming nonsensical and mythological all at the same time. Can't recommend it and I wont bother with the next one

I definitely wanted to know how the story continued, but feel ripped off over the price, considering how little there is to learn can all likely be inferred in the next book. This is like a too-long preface for the rest of the series. Might as well have been included as such at the end of the set of the first three books - THEN paying $5 for the next, if it's a decent length, would be worthwhile, encouraging further purchases. I want a refund or won't bother continuing the series, even though I enjoy it.
