This review isn't a criticism of Frank Herbert's novels, which are classics, it's a review of this digital edition of them. I bought this anthology to save new carrying the books on my commute - my pigtail copies are old and I don't want to damage them. This digital edition is very poor. Not only are there only 3 chapter divisions (one chapter for each book), but the quotations between the major parts of Dune itself are missing. All you get is a piece of text telling you which of Irulan's book the quote comes from, but not the quote. To add insult to injury, they've also mis-spelled Piter de Vries' name, incorrectly calling him Piter de Vried. To mis-spell the name of one of the major characters is ridiculous. Did no-one proof read this? My advice would be to avoid these editions completely.

Outstanding sci-fi novel. Read after watching part one of the new movies. i feel i would have been quite lost at first without the movie knowledge to help me.

About the author
Frank Herbert (1920-86) was born in Tacoma, Washington and worked as a reporter and later editor of a number of West Coast newspapers before becoming a full-time writer. His first SF story was published in 1952 but he achieved fame more than ten years later with the publication in Analog of 'Dune World' and 'The Prophet of Dune', amalgamated into the Hugo and Nebula-winning novel DUNE in 1965, now a legendary part of the science fiction canon.
